A 14-year-old boy was kidnapped and murdered in Tsiroanomandidy district while his abductors continued demanding a 15 million ariary ransom from his family. Six people have been arrested in connection with the case, which has shocked the district. On July 23, the teenager was abducted and later killed in Betsingafy, in the fokontany of Andranomavokely, Belobaka commune, Tsiroanomandidy district. The boy had accompanied his parents to rice transplanting work. While they labored in the paddies, he wandered off to dig earthworms to feed the poultry. When night fell, he could not be found despite his family's search efforts. Shortly after his disappearance, his parents received an SMS stating their son was being held captive. The kidnappers demanded 15 million ariary, requesting an initial payment of one million ariary the following Saturday, with the remainder due within the week. The gendarmerie investigation made a breakthrough on August 2. Alerted by residents about a suspect's suspicious behavior, Belobaka gendarmes arrested the individual. During questioning, the suspect, a relative of the victim's family, allegedly confessed to involvement in the kidnapping. He also revealed the teenager had been killed on the day he disappeared, while ransom demands continued to extort money from his parents. The suspect then led investigators to where the victim's body was buried. Further investigation led to the arrest of five additional people suspected of involvement. In total, six suspects were apprehended. According to initial investigation findings, four are from the same village as the bereaved family. Fearing vigilante violence, the gendarmerie transferred the case to the GAPJ of Bongolava, which continues investigations. The six suspects are expected to be referred to the competent prosecutor's office after their detention to face charges.
