Equipment from China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), the company responsible for flyover construction. The Anosizato flyover project has entered its first phase. Since the initial groundbreaking Friday evening, CGC, the contractor, has been setting up its installation site near the bridge. Yesterday, workers began erecting a fence around the land where company equipment is already stationed. "This fence will protect the machines and materials while freeing up space previously occupied by local traders and residents," explains a worker while installing wooden posts as fence supports. The workers on site, all Malagasy, were unable to specify when construction of the new bridge will begin, which is part of the first phase of this project. "We only know that the future bridge will be built at this location," says another worker, pointing to where the new infrastructure will be erected (to the right of the current bridge, heading toward RN1 from Anosizato roundabout). The countdown has started for this company. It has 24 months to complete the flyover, according to Public Works Minister Dr Sambilason Richard Rafefimanana. The project involves constructing two new bridges and demolishing the current one, building an interchange with ramps and access roads, widening RN1 to four lanes over 1.8 km between Anosizato and Antanimenakely, and rehabilitating 8.5 km of RN58A connecting Ankadimbahoaka to Andohatapenaka.
