Malagasy photographer Henitsoa Rafalia will present a photographic series dedicated to Sambatra in Lubumbashi. Malagasy photography is crossing new frontiers. Photographer Henitsoa Rafalia will represent Madagascar at the second edition of the collective exhibition Mampala Foto Lubumbashi, organized in the Democratic Republic of Congo from August 29 to September 29, 2026. He will present a series devoted to Sambatra, an emblematic tradition of the Antambahoaka people, offering an international showcase for Malagasy cultural heritage.

Bringing together thirty-eight artists from different backgrounds, this artistic event will be themed "Mijiji: Roots - a return to the essential, a projection toward the future." The works presented will invite the public to reflect on the links between cultural heritage, identity, and the future.

For this exhibition, Henitsoa Rafalia will unveil a photographic series dedicated to Sambatra, the collective circumcision ceremony practiced by the Antambahoaka people in southeastern Madagascar. Through his lens, he highlights an ancestral tradition that testifies to the cultural wealth of the country and its importance in transmitting values and identity.

On social media, the photographer shared his satisfaction at taking part in this international event. "Honored to shed light on this Malagasy tradition and to contribute, through photography, to the radiance of our cultural heritage beyond our borders," he wrote.

Through this participation, Henitsoa Rafalia will promote Malagasy photography while offering African and international audiences an immersion into one of Madagascar's most emblematic traditions.
