Despite a five-day grace period granted to motorists to comply with the ban on non-standard lighting, 45 vehicles were still caught violating the regulations during a control operation conducted Thursday evening by the General Directorate of Road Safety (DGSR). The operation began on National Roads 2 and 7, following an earlier information and awareness campaign by authorities regarding the use of these non-compliant lighting devices. On the ground, agents from the Vehicle Control Center found that several drivers continued using these lights despite warnings. The issue: devices capable of blinding other road users and compromising visibility, with increased accident risk. In total, 45 vehicles were intercepted during this operation. The drivers involved were forced to immediately remove the prohibited lighting before continuing their journey. The devices were also seized by agents to prevent their reuse. The DGSR warns that this operation is not an isolated case. Controls will continue on other national roads across the island. Motorists and motorcyclists using this type of lighting are invited to voluntarily remove them to avoid penalties. During this holiday season, authorities are stepping up road safety efforts. A reminder intended to be dissuasive, as the DGSR places user safety at the heart of this campaign.
