Ravalomanana arrived as a messiah and gave that impression for one term before confusing financial law with corporate accounting. Rajaonarimampianina wasted time with his structural projects at the expense of priorities and urgencies. His score in the 2019 presidential election speaks volumes about the population's disappointment, who had placed great faith in his qualities as an intellectual and accountant, ultimately facing a crushing failure where corruption, insecurity, power cuts, water shortages, and anarchy have not retreated one bit. Then Rajoelina arrives with a development project based on pomp, luxury, dreams, frivolities, charity, and handouts. Grand words and beautiful speeches based on impressive projects, but far from the priorities of a population struggling in immeasurable poverty. Handouts and begging are not engines of development. After more than half a century of wandering—longer than the people of Israel led by Jacob and his family, driven by terrible famine, took to leave Canaan for Egypt, where his son Joseph became patriarch. A journey of 400 km completed in 40 years. After several centuries of slavery, the Hebrews returned to Israel under Moses' leadership toward the Promised Land. This passage of biblical history bears a striking resemblance to our journey. We have seen everything: famine, plague epidemics, cholera, Covid, mpox... despite all the 'Tolona' performed, paid for with the lives of martyrs who died for opportunists.
