Malagasy comic books are experiencing a new wave. Presented yesterday at the Anosy National Library, the catalog "New Generation, New Inspiration" from publisher Hay Tsingory brings together several works by young creators determined to enrich the local publishing landscape.

Through this initiative, the publisher aims to support the emergence of a new wave of authors and give them greater visibility. The ambition is also to demonstrate that influences from manga and modern comic books can combine with Malagasy cultural identity to create original stories.

Humor and Realism

Four authors are highlighted in this catalog, now available in Antananarivo bookstores. The public can discover "Fanambin'i Rijakely" by Riri, "Sioka" and "Azy" by Kura, "Arira Arira" by Cloud Blue, and "Loulou Naka" by Mozeration.

Among the titles offered, "Fanambin'i Rijakely" follows the journey of a high school student from a peasant family questioning his future after graduation. Blending humor and social realism, the work addresses situations in which many young Malagasy can recognize themselves. Its author, Riri, whose real name is Rindra Razafindrabe, is a press illustrator and independent author. Co-founder of the Tantsary association, he is involved in several projects related to youth and cultural development.

With "Sioka," Kura takes readers on an initiatory journey inspired by Malagasy tales and legends. Two teenagers find themselves immersed in the world of stories told by their grandmother and discover the customs and traditions of old. The author also offers "Azy," the story of a young girl from the countryside who dreams of succeeding in Antananarivo but must face numerous obstacles. Passionate about literature since childhood, Kura weaves tales, reality, and poetry into her stories to tell deeply human narratives.
