LED lighting on automobiles, motorcycles, and heavy vehicles is prohibited on national roads and must be removed under penalty of sanctions. Road authorities granted vehicle owners and users a five-day grace period starting July 25, 2026, to comply with current regulations. As of yesterday, following the expiration of this deadline, agents from the General Directorate of Road Safety conducted field inspections in Antananarivo and various regions across Madagascar. Approximately fifty violators were cited and forced to immediately remove the prohibited devices. However, it is evident that enthusiasts of these lighting devices are reluctant to part with them, judging by the number of vehicles equipped with LED lights still spotted on roads despite the ban.
