A fire sparked panic in Ampasika on Monday evening, abruptly interrupting a funeral vigil. The blaze broke out around 8:30 p.m. in a three-story house located in the fokontany of Anosimasina, Bemasoandro commune. Flames were spotted on the third floor, an unoccupied space. The property owner, R. S., 28, married with three children, confirmed no one was residing on the affected floor. Damage was limited to the roof and two windows, with no casualties or significant material losses. Despite the incident, the family chose to continue the wake in the house. Alerted by residents, local gendarmes responded, supported by neighbors and firefighters who arrived with two fire trucks. Jirama cut off electricity to prevent further risks. Police indicated the fire likely resulted from an electrical surge. Two rooms were damaged, but the fire was controlled within minutes thanks to coordination between rescue teams from Tsaralalàna station and community solidarity. Witnesses described palpable fear as flames became visible. 'When the fire appeared, panic seized us,' said a neighborhood security committee member present at the vigil. 'Some ran toward exits, others scattered in the yard, unsure where to take shelter. We heard crackling sounds, and for a few moments, it was total confusion.'
