Berivotra Maevatanàna: One Cattle Thief Killed by Police
Among the cattle thieves long sought in connection with cattle rustling and armed robbery cases in the northern part of Maevatanàna district was a man known by the name Honoré. According to information gathered, on July 28, 2026, around 2 a.m., the head of the police unit in the rural commune of Berivotra 5/5, in Maevatanàna district, received a call regarding a group of three thieves who had stolen weapons including a rifle and machete, attacked and stole cattle from Betainkilotra, near the Ankalamilotrakely checkpoint. Shortly after, police did not hesitate to head to the scene with several officers and cattle owners. When they confronted the criminals, two of them fled with their weapons, but one continued driving the stolen cattle. After a long pursuit, he finally stopped and resisted with stones and other objects. At that point, police were forced to use force against him. The result: the criminal died from severe blood loss.
