A new home invasion occurred in the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in Behenjy, Ambatolampy district. A 72-year-old retired military officer was brutally beaten by four individuals who demanded money before fleeing with a modest sum of cash and personal belongings. The attack took place around 1:05 a.m. in the fokontany Morarano Ouest. Four assailants, uncovered and armed with sticks and stones, broke into the victim's home. Under threat, they demanded money. When the septuagenarian stated he had no cash, the attackers beat him with sticks, injuring him particularly around one eye. The assailants seized 175,000 ariary in cash, a mobile phone, and a radio before fleeing eastward toward fokontany Tsinjony. The victim's calls for help went unanswered due to a particular circumstance: at the time of the attack, nearly all the village men were approximately 400 meters away, attending a funeral vigil. The criminals apparently took advantage of this absence to strike. Alerted minutes later, neighbors and gendarmes pursued the suspects. Authorities also notified neighboring villages and increased checks, particularly in Tsinjony, where buses leaving the area were inspected. Roadblocks were set up on main routes likely used by the fugitives. The retired officer was rushed to Behenjy's Level II Basic Health Center where he received initial treatment. Investigation and search operations continue under the direction of Behenjy's Gendarmerie Outpost to identify and apprehend those responsible for this violent attack, which once again raises concerns about nighttime home invasions in rural areas.
