FC Rouge has written one of the finest chapters in its young history. The Alarobia Amboniloha club won the 2026 Madagascar Cup by defeating AS Sainte-Anne 3-2 in the final. This triumph opens the doors of the CAF Confederation Cup to the "little giant" of Malagasy football. It marks a first international outing for a team born in neighborhood tournaments and transformed, in just a few seasons, into one of the symbols of grassroots football in Madagascar.

From neighborhood pitches to the national stage, FC Rouge was founded in the early 2020s, initially competing only in local tournaments. It brought together players from Ivandry, Soavimasoandro, and Alarobia Amboniloha, where the club was based. "The club has existed since 2021, but only competed in neighborhood tournaments. That's when the idea emerged to take these players higher, so they could be seen," explains Hasina Rakotondramiara, the club's president.

In 2023, FC Rouge joined Ligue 1 Analamanga with its local players, reinforced by well-known Malagasy football names: Tojo Kely, Rajao, Johnny Be, and Dadamanga. In its first federal competition season, the club won the Ligue 1 Analamanga championship by beating AS Sainte-Anne 3-1. However, their Pro D2 adventure ended in the first round.

A merger with Inate FC changed everything. Inate FC, from Vakinankaratra, finished as D2 vice-champions but lacked financial means and resources for the Pro League. The fusion created Inate FC Rouge, limited to one season. By 2024, the objective was clear: maintain Pro League status. Mission accomplished. The following season, the club narrowly missed the playoffs but avoided relegation. Meanwhile, they progressed in the Madagascar Cup: quarterfinals in 2023, semifinals in 2024, quarterfinals again in 2025.

In 2026, FC Rouge reached the Pro League playoffs (eliminated by Elgeco Plus on penalties in the quarterfinals) and, most importantly, finally won the Madagascar Cup. "We've written a beautiful story," summarizes Rakotondramiara.

The CAF Confederation Cup will be FC Rouge's African baptism. Beyond the national title, FC Rouge will represent Madagascar in continental competition. "Our objective of winning the Cup is achieved. It's no longer a goal, it's a milestone crossed. Our ambition on the African stage is to give our maximum and reach the group phase. It won't be simple, especially since we have no stadium. But we won't be discouraged," affirms the president.

The club plans to strengthen its squad with players from Malagasy clubs. "Now it's not the FC Rouge of Alarobia playing, it's the FC Rouge of Madagascar," insists Rakotondramiara. Coach Fenosoa Ratolojanahary confirms the approach: "Historically, Madagascar's representatives have always brought reinforcements. We'll do the same. The African level is different. We'll analyze our weaknesses position by position and strengthen the squad. We'll prepare this competition seriously. Just because it's a first doesn't mean we'll take it lightly."

The president launches a clear appeal for support. "Our players, many still young, are extremely motivated to play in Africa and carry high the colors of our club and Madagascar. We want to show that an emerging small club can also represent the country. We call on football enthusiasts, businesses, and authorities. Representing Madagascar isn't simple. Any help—financial, material, or even advice—will be welcome."

While FC Rouge prepares for the CAF Confederation Cup, CFFA Andoharanofotsy will represent Madagascar in the CAF Champions League. Two clubs, two paths, one shared ambition: to shine Malagasy football on the continent. However, a major obstacle looms: the absence of an approved stadium on national territory.
