Harold Tavares, administrator on the Board of the World Bank Group, was received yesterday by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr Herinjatovo Aimé Ramiarison. Cooperation between Madagascar and the World Bank Group continues with priority given to implementing projects that have direct impact on the population's living conditions. This visit by Harold Tavares, administrator of Africa Group II on the World Bank Group's Board of Directors, marks a new stage in regular dialogue between Malagasy authorities and the international financial institution on the country's development priorities. At Antaninarenina, discussions focused on the state of cooperation, ongoing projects, and various reforms supported by the World Bank. The visit places significant emphasis on infrastructure and improvement of essential services. Field visits planned under the Integrated Urban Development and Resilience Project for Greater Antananarivo (PRODUIR) and the Project to Improve Access to Drinking Water (PAEEP) will showcase progress made on the ground. These initiatives address strategic sectors including water, energy, and urban development, aiming to sustainably strengthen access to basic services while promoting local economic development. The energy sector is central to discussions. Considered an essential lever for growth and improved public services, energy is currently undergoing several technical and financial reforms. Discussions covered Jirama's financial recovery, improved sector performance, and mobilizing private investment in energy infrastructure development. Implementation of the Energy Pact for Madagascar under the "Mission 300" initiative was also addressed. This approach aims to support electricity access expansion and accelerate necessary investments in sector transformation. The World Bank also supports Madagascar in reforms to improve public management and advance national development objectives. Ongoing projects awaiting ratification and budget support discussions were also examined. Through this mission, both parties reaffirm their commitment to directing their partnership toward concrete, sustainable results directly visible to the population.
