Mamitiana Orphanage: Agricultural Self-Sufficiency Gives Children Hope
Children at Mamitiana orphanage received a kubota from the Axian Foundation yesterday. Mamitiana orphanage is breathing new life into vulnerable children in its care. Thanks to a kubota donation from the Axian Foundation, the center is realizing its ambitions for agricultural self-sufficiency while fueling a broad regional solidarity network. At the heart of Mamitiana orphanage in Ambohimangakely, laughter and hope have definitively replaced the wounds of the past. Esther arrived at just one week old due to a custom rejecting twins in her home region, and the now fifth-grade student has found a true home there. Between shared household tasks and the caring affection of educators, the 13-year-old dreams of becoming a dancer and hopes to one day establish her own center to help street children. Alongside her, Victorien, welcomed in 2019 due to his parents' inability to fund his provincial studies, is thriving and already envisions himself in a future gendarme's uniform. To offer a secure future for these young charges, food self-sufficiency remains the absolute priority. Until now, the center attempted to exploit its vast 20-hectare domain with only five spades and a plow, managing to cultivate just one to two hectares. Facing the growing needs of the facility, which consumes six bags of rice monthly, the Axian Foundation responded yesterday by donating a kubota-type tiller. As explained by Hary Rakotoniaina, founder of Mamitiana Orphanage, this modern agricultural equipment will transform production. The domain can now harvest rice in abundance, as well as cassava and corn for daily snacks. According to Jessica Razakamanantsoa, spokesperson for the Axian Foundation, this three-year partnership is part of comprehensive support including health and nutrition. Beyond direct support to the orphanage, the harvests generated will feed about ten other partner centers, creating a genuine solidarity network for Malagasy youth.
