Meeting between Michaël Randrianirina and the Malagasy diaspora in the Egyptian capital. The phenomenon of missing persons has now reached the highest level of presidential discourse. On an official visit to Egypt since July 28, the head of state, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, stated before the Malagasy diaspora that cases of missing persons "are not a matter of chance." According to him, they would be orchestrated with a political objective aimed at "sowing fear" and weakening state institutions. Facing around fifty Malagasy nationals gathered at the presidential palace of El-Qubba in Cairo, the head of state denounced what he presented as an organized campaign to manipulate public opinion. He notably pointed to the proliferation of fake accounts on social media, accused of spreading alarming information about disappearances in order to maintain a climate of panic. "Today, it is clear that some are using cases of disappearance to terrorize the population. Behind the fake accounts spreading this information lies a true destabilization strategy," he declared in substance. Without ever naming names, Michaël Randrianirina clearly suggested that this offensive would be led by his political opponents. According to him, their objective would be to discredit the institutions of the Refoundation and convince the international community that Madagascar is sinking into instability. The president asserts, however, that this strategy is doomed to fail. He assures that the state has already strengthened its response system with the establishment of a "Task Force" and an Operational Center responsible for coordinating searches and interventions across the entire territory. "The government has already taken the necessary measures and these structures are working in close collaboration with security forces to follow each case," he explained. Michaël Randrianirina also emphasized the involvement of several ministerial departments, notably those of Public Security and Justice, alongside the National Gendarmerie, in the fight against this phenomenon. Taking advantage of this meeting with the diaspora, the head of state also warned against another form of misinformation circulating on the internet.
