Mpox has claimed another child's life. The victim is a one-month-old infant who died in the Atsinanana region, according to updates on the epidemic reported by the incident manager of the Operational Center for Health Emergencies (Cousp), Professor Jean de Dieu Mamy Randria, yesterday. This is yet another child to fall victim to Mpox in Madagascar. Since the first cases were identified in December 2025, 22 deaths have been reported. These victims are mainly people living with HIV/AIDS and children. "Pregnant women, children under 5 years old, and people living with chronic diseases are the most vulnerable to this disease. In them, the risk of complications and death is high," explains this infectious disease specialist. The professor recommends that pregnant women protect themselves from contracting this disease and urges everyone to protect children, especially infants. "It is strongly recommended to restrict visits to infants and avoid all physical contact to reduce infection risks," he advises. This epidemic continues to evolve in Madagascar. According to the Public Health Ministry's report covering the period from December 18, 2025 to July 28, 2026, the country has recorded 4,798 notified Mpox cases, of which 3,146 are confirmed. In total, 2,184 people have recovered. The health situation remains concerning, however, with a high positivity rate of 72.67%.
