A significant Madagascan government delegation is currently in Egypt. Led by the president of the Refoundation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, accompanied by his wife, it includes seven Madagascan ministers. Upon their arrival on Tuesday, July 28 in the early evening at Cairo International Airport, the presidential couple was welcomed by Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Alaa Eldeen Farouk, Ambassador Raba Saïed, and members of the Madagascan government already present. This visit aims to sustainably elevate diplomatic and commercial relations between Antananarivo and Cairo to an exceptional partnership level. This strategic rapprochement fully aligns with continental dynamics, as Madagascar and Egypt are members of the African Union and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Both countries operate within a privileged free-trade and cooperation space conducive to strengthening their exchanges. Upon departure from Ivato International Airport, the Madagascan president reaffirmed his conviction that reinforced solidarity and close partnership between African nations constitute one of the main drivers of prosperity and sustainable development on the continent. Beyond diplomatic relations, Egypt's economic presence is already well-established in Madagascan daily life. On market stalls and in shops across the island, a large portion of imported consumer goods comes from Egypt, particularly nearly all bottled cooking oil sold on the national market. This strong presence of Egyptian agrifood products illustrates already sustained commercial exchanges, now set to be further structured and developed in a spirit of balanced partnership. Cooperation between the two countries is also reflected in several major projects carried out by Egyptian expertise. The most notable example is road infrastructure, with the company Samcrete, responsible for constructing the first highway connecting Antananarivo to Toamasina. This partnership extends to the energy sector through Egyptian companies specializing in electrical equipment and networks, as well as agriculture through the Egyptian-Madagascan Farm Project dedicated to improved seed production and date palm cultivation experimentation in southern Madagascar. True to tradition marking each of his official foreign visits, the Refoundation president devoted his first evening in Cairo to the Madagascan community. He met with diaspora members in Egypt at El-Qubba Palace in an exchange marked by warmth and conviviality. This meeting allowed him to gather proposals from his compatriots while presenting them with the latest political and economic developments in the country. The highlight of this official visit takes place on Wednesday, July 29 at the El Alamein presidential palace, located approximately 260 kilometers from Cairo, where President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi officially receives his Madagascan counterpart. This summit meeting is followed by working sessions between the seven Madagascan ministers and their Egyptian counterparts, under the joint presidency of both heads of state. The signing of several sectoral cooperation agreements and a joint declaration will mark this official visit, while the First Lady will conduct a parallel program of activities and meetings dedicated to her.
