A young man, still identified, drowned in the Ambahive River waters on Sunday. According to reports, he was among the fishermen at the Ankaramalaza site. He had apparently taken a brief break and went to play in the water when tragedy struck. Local residents and authorities attempted rescue operations. The body was recovered from the water much later. People who witnessed the incident were shocked, particularly those who had come to pray, only to encounter this disaster instead. Nevertheless, the fishermen who survived gathered to mourn and console each other in their grief. It is said the young man could not swim and had never learned, which ultimately caused his death. During the dry season like now, the water appears deceptively calm. When viewed from outside, it seems still and motionless. However, these areas often conceal deep holes beneath the surface. Sometimes these holes result from erosion and are particularly dangerous because the water swirls when entering them. It is advisable, especially during the dry season like this, to ask local residents who know the water conditions well and respect any taboos that may exist. The river and sea have already claimed many lives since the beginning of this dry season.
