"Litera A" - Elie Ramanankavana Explores Malagasy Memory
Elie Ramanankavana closely follows national news. With "Litera A," Elie Ramanankavana offers a sensitive reading of Madagascar's political and social realities through writing that blends chronicle, memory, and literature. Behind a simple letter lies a profound reflection on history and the future. Writer, poet, and cultural journalist Elie Ramanankavana publishes "Litera A: Chronicle of the Syllable of Flame," a new work published by Hakanto Édition, which questions Malagasy society through recent events and the symbolic power of the letter A. The book brings together chronicles inspired by sociopolitical events that occurred between September 25 and October 11, 2025 in Madagascar. Through these events, the author analyzes tensions, hopes, and transformations of a society in flux, while highlighting collective memory and youth aspirations. At the heart of the work, the letter "A" emerges as a powerful symbol. Present in many names and even in the word Madagascar, it embodies memory, resistance, and renewal. Through this literary choice, Elie Ramanankavana questions the links between past and future, continuity and rupture, while giving poetic form to history's cycles. The author goes beyond simple news commentary. He blends analysis, literary writing, and historical reflection to show how political events influence society and nourish collective imagination. The book thus stands between essay, narrative, and poetry, in an approach where literature becomes a space for social questioning. Official Launch A rising figure in the Malagasy literary scene, Elie Ramanankavana was born in 1995 and lives between Antananarivo and Manakara. Poet, novelist, and art critic, he was already awarded the 2023 No'Ocultures Prize for photographic criticism. The official launch of "Litera A" will take place on June 24 at 3 p.m. at Hakanto House, Antananarivo. The event will include a discussion with the author, followed by a signing session and the book's sale.
