Parliamentarians are mobilizing in the fight against HIV/AIDS. A workshop focused on strengthening the skills of parliamentarians in responding to HIV/AIDS and advocating for health budgets and sexual and reproductive rights (SRHR) in Madagascar is being held in Anosy for two days. The situation remains concerning: the share of the national budget allocated to the health sector remains particularly low. Currently, an estimated 90,000 people are living with HIV in Madagascar, while the prevalence rate among pregnant women stands at 1.1%. As the legislative branch, it was essential to remind elected officials of this epidemiological reality. The objective is to fuel advocacy and strengthen the capacity and commitment of parliamentarians in their key functions: governance, oversight of government action, legislative reform, and budget awareness. A crucial approach to optimize patient care and ensure sustainable financing of SRHR in Madagascar. Supported by strategic partners such as UNFPA and Marie Stopes International (MSI), this workshop aims for a future without discrimination, where every patient has access to dignified and inclusive care.
