As the launch of the National Consultation and political dialogue approaches, the president of the Refoundation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, received two former heads of state elected by universal suffrage, Marc Ravalomanana and Hery Rajaonarimampianina. This marks their first official meeting since the head of state took power in October 2025. According to the presidency, this initiative is inspired by practices in several countries where former heads of state are regularly consulted within bodies comparable to a State Council or Constitutional Council. Since Madagascar lacks such an organ, the head of state wished to bring together his two predecessors to exchange views on the evolution of national affairs. The discussions, whose details were not disclosed, reportedly covered several current issues and solutions to address the country's challenges, in the supreme interest of the Nation and its people. The presidency's services emphasized that the exchanges took place in "total brotherhood." Presented as an exchange devoted to the evolution of national affairs, this meeting marks a political turning point that far exceeds a simple protocol framework. It can be interpreted as the beginning of burying the hatchet between the Fanavaozana and Marc Ravalomanana. Since Colonel Michael Randrianirina came to power, the former president had not hesitated to criticize the regime's direction on several occasions. In return, Refoundation officials had also multiplied jabs against the former head of state, particularly regarding his attitude. Their presence side by side around the same table could be considered a break with this permanent confrontation. Beyond their differences, the three personalities now share several points of convergence. President Michaël Randrianirina naturally leads the current regime. Hery Rajaonarimampianina also retains perceptible influence within institutions through several former collaborators. Onitiana Realy, former minister of Population and director of his 2018 presidential campaign, now holds the strategic position of director of cabinet of the Refoundation presidency. Alain Rasambany, current minister of Youth and Sports, also held important responsibilities within the HVM. Marc Ravalomanana also has channels within the government team. Hanitra Razafimanantsoa, State minister in charge of Refoundation, is regularly associated with his political circle, although their relations have reportedly become strained. Todisoa Randriamampandry, minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, is also considered close to the former president. Another element brings these three figures of Malagasy political life together: their opposition to Andry Rajoelina, president overthrown in October 2025. While not constituting a political alliance in itself, this common ground fuels analyses of a reshaping of the national landscape. It remains to transform this historic image into concrete results. In a context marked by persistent insecurity, economic difficulties, and strong expectations regarding development, a large part of the population hopes that this first official meeting will not be limited to a demonstration of unity. Many wish it to open a new phase of dialogue and allow the three men to truly align their positions in service of the supreme interest of the Nation.
