A new armed robbery has underscored the persistence of insecurity in the capital's outskirts. On Sunday, July 26, around 7 p.m., a wholesale store located in Ambohidrazaka, in the commune of Alasora, in the Antananarivo Avaradrano district, was targeted by a gang of approximately eight armed individuals. The assailants burst into the shop, immediately opening fire to create panic and force occupants to hand over money and merchandise. Following their raid, they seized approximately 3 million ariary in cash, several mobile phones, phone credit cards, and other goods. Despite the violence of the attack, no deaths or injuries were recorded. The premises also suffered no significant damage. According to initial reports, the perpetrators then fled in the direction of Mahatsinjo. Local authorities immediately alerted residents of the fokontany of Mahatsinjo, Ankady, Ambohitanety, Ambohimarina, and Mandikanamana to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or behavior without delay. Quickly notified, elements of the National Police and National Gendarmerie went to the scene and launched a pursuit operation to attempt to intercept the fugitives, who are believed to still be armed. An investigation has also been opened to identify the perpetrators of this attack and any possible accomplices. Unfortunately, this robbery is not an isolated case. According to information gathered, the same merchants had already been victims of a similar attack approximately two years ago. The fact that they are targeted once again raises questions about the targeting of stores handling large sums of money and highlights the need to strengthen security measures around these establishments. In a context where armed robberies are multiplying in several locations across the country, this new assault once again illustrates the challenges law enforcement continues to face against increasingly bold criminal gangs.
