At 16 years old, Arthur Rimbaud ran away and opened a singular chapter of his life. This youthful period now inspires The Shadows of Evenings, an Arthur Rimbaud Fugue, a comic created by Malagasy artist Liva Rajaobelina, known by the pseudonym Liva, and French screenwriter Joan De Crane. Published through self-publishing after more than four years of work, the album blends biographical narrative, travel journal, and coming-of-age adventure to offer a fresh perspective on the poet's life and legend.
Born on January 1, 1971 in Madagascar, Liva Rajaobelina is a Malagasy illustrator, comic book author, and portraitist. He gained international recognition for his atypical and meticulous graphic techniques. His artistic signatures include ballpoint pen and razor blade—a technique that involves scratching paper to create striking contrasts—as well as monochrome pointillism, a precise and demanding style requiring great patience to give relief to his black and white works.
The album contains 64 pages in 24 × 32 cm format, in black and white. Now available in Antananarivo in limited quantities, it is offered with a dedication from the authors. Graphic novel and literature enthusiasts can discover this new work that revisits an episode of Arthur Rimbaud's youth through the combined perspective of two authors from different cultures.
