Readnest is raising funds to transport 2,500 English-language books. The association continues its fundraising efforts to finance the shipment of 2,500 English books donated by supporters in the United Kingdom. The goal is to establish an English-language library in Antananarivo to make these works accessible, particularly to vulnerable populations. Transportation and customs clearance of the books require 13.5 million ariary. So far, fundraising efforts have collected 1.2 million ariary. To mobilize the public, the association organized five collection weekends, two at Carrefour and three at Akoor Digue.
According to Readnest, English-language books remain difficult to access in Madagascar. They are mainly available in large supermarkets or online, which limits access for many people. The future library will make these works freely available to readers, with special attention to vulnerable populations.
The project extends beyond simply providing books. The association plans to organize training workshops, conferences, an English club, a reading club, and activities for children. Shelves to house the books are already available, while the library's location is still being confirmed.
"Today, the idea is validated and the project is launched. But for this first English-language library to become a sustainable reality, we need funds and support," says Finaritra Nancy Ramiandrisoa, president and founder of Readnest. She also appeals to authorities, the Presidency, businesses, and the entire community of Antananarivo and Madagascar. "This is a project made by and for Malagasy people, and together we will make it happen," she concludes.
