Corrections for the baccalaureate examination began yesterday. Teachers have identified errors in certain subjects. Answer sheets were placed in bags and transported to a correction room in Ankatso. Scientific subject papers dominated discussions yesterday during the first day of baccalaureate exam corrections in Antananarivo. "Errors have slipped into several scientific tests, particularly mathematics and physics-chemistry," teachers revealed. Mathematics teachers specifically pointed to the Series C exam. "A geometry exercise worth 4.75 points contained an error in the problem statement. It should have stated point A and not point O, which didn't even exist in the subject," explained one teacher. Another educator added that a question on functions was also incorrect. In the Social and Economic Sciences (SES) series, the presence of the financial table caught teachers off guard. "This chapter was not covered in class," they indicated. Physics-chemistry is also affected. Teachers in this subject confirmed that errors were detected in the papers, particularly in Series C. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research acknowledges the presence of errors in certain exam subjects. According to the Director General of Higher Education, Professor Angelo Raherinirina, these are generally spelling mistakes or missing data. No Impact To explain this situation, he noted that subject designers have had to prepare three papers per series since 2023, compared to two previously, which would increase their workload given there are seven series in total. He stressed, however, that this in no way justifies the presence of errors in the exams. These errors would have no impact on candidates' grades. "Some errors were corrected before the exams began. No bonus points will be awarded to candidates for questions that were corrected," explained this official. Errors are identified almost every year during the baccalaureate examination. The Director General of Higher Education also noted that errors are fewer than in the previous session. Discussions are underway to improve the system. Debates focus particularly on reorganizing the current seven series, which should constitute only a transition phase, with the elimination of streams A, C and D in favor of three main pathways: Literature, Science and Social and Economic Sciences (SES). This would be accompanied by oversight of subject design and improvement of the validation process.
