"What is happening today in Madagascar deeply affects me. I cannot remain silent in the face of this reality." Former president Andry Rajoelina expressed himself yesterday on his Facebook page to offer words of encouragement to the Malagasy people and condolences to the families of children and adults who have fallen victim to kidnappings and murders currently plaguing the country. While openly accused by some members of the current government of being behind these acts of terror, the ex-president chose a carefully calculated political tone to proclaim his innocence, citing a biblical verse from Psalm 59:1: "Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me. Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men. See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, O Lord. I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me." "Through this Scripture, I address all families going through trials and suffering. I pray to God to grant us His protection against kidnappings, injustices, and all forms of violence striking our country. Too many children have lost their lives, and too many families now live in anguish, fear, and uncertainty. Today, when a child leaves home, many parents only find peace when he returns safe and sound. And this worry concerns not only children: young people and adults also live in fear and insecurity. May God protect every child, every woman, every man, and our entire nation." Andry Rajoelina also called for solidarity, unity, and mutual aid, while delivering a message of hope to the Malagasy people. "Faced with this tragedy, let us not allow division or hatred to separate us from one another. Instead, let us make heard the voice of our conscience, our humanity, and our solidarity. Let us keep hope that one day peace will return, that fear will give way to trust, and that every Malagasy can live freely, in security, dignity, and peace.
