Water pipe repair and replacement work by Jirama will impact traffic and water supply. The Ambohimiandra road will be closed at the beginning of the week for major water pipe repairs and replacement. "Work will begin Monday, June 22, 2026 and last three days. During the entire construction period, traffic will be completely cut off in the work zone, in front of the Ambohimiandra General Education College (CEG), on the road connecting Ambohimiandra to Mandroseza," states the Urban Municipality of Antananarivo (CUA) in a statement released yesterday. Capital authorities have not provided specific traffic instructions or alternative routes as of press time. These interventions will also impact water distribution in several sectors. Water will be completely cut off in Ankadifotsy, Manjakaray, Soavimbahoaka, Nanisana, Ampasampito, Ankadindramamy, Ankerana, Analamahitsy, Ivandry, Soavimasoandro, Ambatobe, Masinandrina, Ambohitrarahaba, Ankadikely, Ilafy, and all surrounding localities, according to Jirama. "Jirama will increase deployment of water tanker trucks to distribute water free of charge in these neighborhoods to mitigate inconveniences caused by this outage," it assures. The project targets the Ambohimiandra pipe, responsible for recurring road damage. "This road is constantly destroyed due to water leaks—we've stopped counting. New damage has been observed for a week and traffic has become unbearable. Even Sunday evening, traffic is completely blocked," says a Mandroseza resident. The pipe has a diameter of 500 mm and extends approximately 180 meters. The decision to proceed was made jointly by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, the Ministry of Public Works, the Analamanga Region, the Urban Municipality of Antananarivo, and Jirama. Normal water supply should gradually return after work completion as the network replenishes.
