Officials from the Vehicle Technical Inspection Centre remind users of the ban on non-compliant vehicle lights. Authorities are stepping up efforts to combat the use of non-compliant lights on vehicles and motorcycles. During a press conference organized by the Vehicle Technical Inspection Centre, officials announced a five-day grace period for users to remove all illegal lighting devices. After this deadline, sanctions will be applied during road checks.
According to Squadron Leader Jacques Didier Rakotondramanana, head of communications at the Vehicle Technical Inspection Centre, drivers are not permitted to use lights that could dazzle other road users. These devices reduce visibility for drivers traveling in the opposite direction and increase accident risks.
Lieutenant-Colonel Rija Alberto Rakotomampianina, head of operations and unannounced technical road inspections, clarified that LED lights or strobe lamps added after vehicle manufacture are prohibited. This includes headlights installed on the rear of trucks, non-approved fog lights, and flashing or high-intensity lights. These devices, often installed outside manufacturer standards, are considered dangerous for road safety.
Officials noted that vehicles are generally compliant during technical inspection. However, some owners subsequently reinstall prohibited lighting equipment in violation of regulations.
To end this practice, users have five days to remove non-compliant lights. After this deadline, road control teams will issue fines.
Taking advantage of the school holiday period, authorities also called on motorists and motorcycle riders to exercise caution and civic responsibility. They are urged to respect traffic laws, drive responsibly, use necessary protective equipment, and ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical and technical condition.
Authorities finally remind that compliance with traffic rules and vigilance from each user remain essential to prevent accidents. Their message is unequivocal: "Life is priceless."
