At JDM Parts Ankorondrano, two to three vehicles now come each week specifically to remove their darkening films, whereas this operation was virtually non-existent before, confirms Tantely Andriamalala, manager of the establishment. Regarding pricing, film removal currently ranges between 25,000 ariary and 60,000 ariary, depending on vehicle type. Conversely, complete installation of a tinted film ranges between 25,000 ariary and 100,000 ariary, according to this manager's explanation. For users without factory-tinted windows, these films met specific needs. Aesthetic appeal is often cited to enhance vehicle appearance, but personal security remains the primary reason, particularly among female drivers seeking protection from unwanted attention and aggression while driving. Protection against solar radiation is another major reason, preventing seat deterioration and protecting the sensitive skin of vulnerable passengers, such as young children. Vehicles imported from South Korea, for example, almost all arrive with factory-tinted windows designed to block ultraviolet rays, Tantely Andriamalala notes. Facing these regulatory requirements, frustration is mounting among affected motorists. Beyond financial costs and time lost in garages, many denounce material damage caused by forced removals. Removing film from the rear window proves particularly delicate, risking permanent damage to the vehicle's defrosting system.
