A strategic partnership was sealed last Saturday in Ankatso. The Confucius Institute and the newly established Institut Tometal have officially formalized their cooperation ahead of next September's school year. Located on the Anosizato axis, Institut Tometal aims to reshape Madagascar's educational landscape with a French-English bilingual program, strengthened by Chinese language learning from primary through secondary school. Beyond academic excellence, Institut Tometal was born from a deep social need and observation within the island. Today, most of the young generation of Chinese origin living in Madagascar no longer masters their mother tongue, or practices it only very restrictively at home or among peers, according to Prisca Maroy Rasoanirina, Malagasy director at the Confucius Institute of the University of Antananarivo. The institution aims to be a cultural bridge allowing these young people to "return to their roots," reclaim their heritage, and learn to speak and write Chinese fluently. One of the major objectives of this agreement is to actively support the local Chinese community. Thanks to this trilingual profile (French, English, Chinese), future graduates of Institut Tometal will benefit from complete flexibility for their higher education. Once they have their baccalaureate, students will have absolute choice in their international destination, whether they decide to pursue university studies in a French-speaking, English-speaking country or directly in China.
