Yas Madagascar has launched the first test of 5G-Advanced (5.5G) technology in the country, marking a new milestone in digital innovation. The successful test confirms Yas Madagascar's pioneer status and demonstrates its global standing as the fourth operator worldwide to experiment with this major evolution in mobile networks, following the United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, and South Africa.
The launch took place last Thursday at Campus Yas Andraharo during a ceremony attended by the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Development, Mahefa Andriamampiadana. This experimentation illustrates Madagascar's capacity to host some of the world's most advanced technologies.
5G-Advanced will significantly improve data speeds, reduce network response times, and provide connection quality suited to the new needs of individuals, businesses, and public services. This technology will pave the way for new applications in artificial intelligence, connected industry, Internet of Things, smart cities, and high-value digital services.
"With this experimentation, we demonstrate that Madagascar today has the infrastructure, skills, and ambition necessary to support major global technological developments. Our objective is to prepare today the networks that will meet tomorrow's needs," said Benoit Janin, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Madagascar.
For Minister Mahefa Andriamampiadana, the introduction of this new technology into the country's digital landscape represents important support for national development. Yas leads the way with over 800 million dollars already invested in developing and modernizing the country's telecommunications infrastructure.
These investments have resulted in over 2,100 telecom sites distributed across the territory; a 100% 4G network ensuring national mobile coverage; progressive 5G deployment in major economic, urban, and tourist zones; four international submarine cables connecting Madagascar to major global telecommunications networks; and over 20,000 kilometers of fiber optic backbone forming the backbone of the national network.
Through this initiative, Yas Madagascar reaffirms its commitment to continue investments to contribute sustainably to the country's digital transformation and strengthen its competitiveness at regional and international levels.
