The death toll from Mpox in Madagascar has reached twenty. A 48-year-old woman died from the disease in Vavatenina. This latest victim brings the total number of deaths recorded in the country since the start of the epidemic to twenty. The information was communicated the day before yesterday during a presentation on the situation regarding the evolution of the Mpox epidemic in Madagascar. "Mpox can present in a severe form and lead to death. Some people still downplay the disease by claiming it does not kill," emphasized Professor Mamy Jean de Dieu Randria, Incident Manager of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COUSP). Faced with this situation, health authorities are calling on the population not to neglect preventive measures. At the first sign of symptoms, it is recommended to go as quickly as possible to an Mpox treatment center to avoid complications. Vulnerable people are also encouraged to get vaccinated against the disease. Over the period from December 18, 2025 to July 23, 2026, Madagascar recorded 4,656 reported cases, of which 3,048 were confirmed.
