A call for calm. That is what the Ecumenical Council of Christian Churches of Madagascar (FFKM) launched yesterday during a service organized on the steps of City Hall in Analakely. The appeal for calm was made by Monsignor Samoela Jaona Ranarivelo, president of the FFKM, in a brief message addressed to the entire nation at the close of the ecumenical service. He accompanied his message with a solemn request "to everyone to refrain from personal vengeance, from denunciation and not to yield to the temptation to take advantage of the current situation." Respect for life, as well as the calming of spirits and moods, were at the center of prayers and speeches by the leaders of the churches that are members of the FFKM, who conducted yesterday's ecumenical service. One of the consequences of the climate of psychosis caused by cases of disappearance is the resurgence of mob justice, often based on mere rumors or denunciation.
