Insecurity continues to concern residents of rural areas. In Sandrandahy, in the Fandriana district, a new armed attack targeting an agricultural product collector ended with the death of two suspected bandits during a gendarmerie intervention. The incident occurred on Friday, July 17 around 7 p.m. in the rural commune of Sandrandahy. Five armed individuals targeted the home of a buyer and collector of agricultural products. After breaking into the house, they seized a sum of money and several items before fleeing. The occupants fortunately suffered no injuries. After the attackers left, the victims were able to alert residents who immediately notified the gendarmes at the Sandrandahy fixed post. The latter quickly pursued the suspects. On the way, they encountered the group of criminals. Upon seeing the law enforcement officers, they attempted to flee. Despite warnings from the gendarmes, the fugitives refused to surrender. The military then used their service weapons. Two of the suspected bandits were fatally struck while three others managed to escape. During investigations, a small bag belonging to the victim was found on the two neutralized individuals, as well as a knife. Part of the loot, notably the money and other stolen items, was reportedly taken by the accomplices on the run. The identity of the two deceased men had not yet been established. Local authorities and competent services conducted standard investigations in accordance with procedure. This case reminds us that combating rural banditry remains a major challenge. Despite regular interventions by law enforcement, attacks targeting economic operators in rural areas continue to fuel a sense of insecurity among populations. The investigation continues to identify the individuals killed and locate the three suspects still being sought, considered potentially armed and dangerous.
