A 29-year-old man died after being violently struck on the head Saturday evening in the fokontany of Fenoarivo, rural commune of Mahaiza, Betafo district. The victim was returning home after completing daily work for a private employer. Following local custom, he had eaten his evening meal at his employer's home before heading back. It was at this point that he was ambushed at Ampaositra. According to witness accounts, the suspected perpetrator knew the victim's habits. He allegedly waited by the roadside with a stick before delivering a violent blow to the head around 6 p.m. Alerted residents intervened and immediately reported the incident. Seriously injured, the young man was urgently evacuated to a health center. However, due to the distance of the medical facility, he succumbed to his injuries during transport. A team of gendarmes from Betafo's territorial brigade and staff from Mahaiza's CSB II conducted investigations. The examination revealed significant head trauma, considered the probable cause of death. No other significant injuries were found on the body. The victim, born in 1997 in Mahaiza, leaves behind a pregnant wife and four children. The suspected perpetrator, a 20-year-old from the same commune, was arrested and placed under gendarmerie supervision.
