Tragedy. Two brothers from Antananarivo died by drowning on July 20 at Kimony beach, a rural commune in Bemanonga district, Morondava. Gendarmes, alerted around 3:51 p.m., rushed to the scene. According to initial investigation findings, the family had come to spend the afternoon by the sea. The two young men, aged 32 and 20, were playing in an area known to be shallow, but waves swept them away. A passerby riding a quad spotted them first and attempted to rescue them. He rushed them to a medical center. Despite efforts made, the victims could not be revived, according to a police report. The tragedy caused deep emotion among relatives and witnesses. In the evening, local authorities, led by the prefect and regional chief, met with the family to offer support, in accordance with Malagasy traditions. This accident reminds us of the importance of exercising caution at sea and respecting safety guidelines to prevent such tragedies.
