From now on, profit-making activities, particularly flea markets and karting sessions, will be permanently organized in dedicated municipal spaces located in front of the regional sports directorate and in front of Notre-Dame college, in the fokontany of Mangarivotra. This decision comes after an incident that occurred last week in front of the Post Office in Mahajanga Be. The two event organizers decided to occupy the square at the same time and began setting up their equipment, which caused a conflict. To resolve the situation, the president of Mahajanga's special delegation and his first collaborator met with both organizers to reach an agreement. It was agreed that the flea market would be moved to the municipal space opposite the regional youth and sports directorate, near the fokontany of Manga. However, the flea market organizers changed their minds and returned to the Post Office. Faced with this situation, the municipality decided to relocate the karting event in front of Notre-Dame to avoid any conflict and preserve public order. Furthermore, the municipality ruled that the space in front of the Post Office can no longer host flea market activities, in order to protect the municipal garden and existing infrastructure against potential damage from such events, in accordance with the 2020 decree defining the organization and use of this administrative zone.
