The body of Dr. Hortensia Mandrosovoatra Avotriniaina, 27, was discovered in the waters of Andriamamovoka waterfall in Ranomafana, in Ifanadiana district. The gendarmerie has launched an investigation.

Tragedy struck as the young physician, who had just begun her medical career, was found dead yesterday. After being recovered from the water, her body was placed in the community hall pending transfer to Fianarantsoa.

Recent movements traced her path: she visited her brother in Ihosy, then returned to Fianarantsoa to prepare university documents at Andrainjato University before traveling to Ranomafana. She made a final call to her brother before losing contact. Her personal belongings, including her bag and phone, were found intact at the scene, ruling out theft.

Initial observations revealed swelling on her forehead, likely caused by impact with a rock in the water. While preliminary findings suggest suicide, an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death. The gendarmerie continues its investigation.

Just graduated, Dr. Avotriniaina had recently defended her thesis and was working as an intern at Manarapenitra Hospital in Fianarantsoa. She planned to continue her internship in Antananarivo. Those close to her mentioned she had faced psychological difficulties related to romantic problems, though they believed the situation had improved.

When her disappearance was reported, her family described her clothing: a pink sweater, black pants, and yellow Chloé sandals, with a gold clip in her hair. Her death has devastated her family, colleagues, and the entire medical community.
