Regional Cooperation: Youth at Heart of Development Issues
The Association of Cities and Local Authorities of the Indian Ocean (AVCOI) has been holding its annual meeting since yesterday, continuing today. The capital is hosting this year's mayors and elected officials from Indian Ocean communities. Discussions focus notably on enabling youth from Francophone regions of the Indian Ocean to better understand issues related to digital development and artificial intelligence, as well as climate change. "This year, we are placing greater emphasis on youth-related issues. We hope this initiative will be beneficial for young people," explains Ambdilwahedou Soumaila, mayor of Mamoudzou, Mayotte, and co-president of AVCOI. Youth thus remains at the heart of exchanges and discussions during these two days. The objective is also to reflect on ways to build territories, cities, neighborhoods and municipalities that are more resilient to current challenges. "Through this annual meeting, AVCOI aims to share experiences and collectively reflect on solutions adapted to the realities of Indian Ocean communities, while placing youth at the center of building the future," emphasizes Bao Razafimahefa, secretary general of the Urban Municipality of Antananarivo.
