Announcements regarding auctions organized by Customs are communicated only through official channels and not on Facebook, according to the Director General of Customs. The General Directorate of Customs (DGD) will organize, starting Monday, August 10, 2026 at 8 a.m., a public auction of goods stored in the warehouses of the Antanimena Customs office in Antananarivo. The procedure will be conducted on the basis of sealed bids, according to Director General Antoine Randrianjafy. In total, 91 lots, comprising 118 types of items, will be offered to participants. The goods in question may come from imports that were not collected by their owners within the legal timeframe, generally two months after being deposited. The sale may also concern abandoned goods, merchandise subject to unpaid duties and taxes, or goods seized following customs violations that have become saleable in accordance with current procedures. The operation is organized under articles 233 to 239 of the Customs Code and decree no. 18,756 of September 8, 2020. It aims to free up storage space, ensure proper management of deposited goods, and valorize legally transferable assets. Open participation Any natural or legal person meeting the required conditions may participate, except Customs service agents. Participation is free and no registration or filing fees are required. "Bidders must, however, attach to their offer a security check corresponding to 10% of the reserve price of the desired lot. This amount is returned to participants whose offers are not accepted," stated the Director General of Customs. Each lot is awarded to the highest compliant bid after the opening of sealed envelopes by the competent commission. This session is open to the public. Goods are sold as-is, without warranty. The successful bidder must then comply with the conditions set out in the specifications, particularly regarding payment, collection, and deadlines, according to Customs. Procedures The transparency of the process is ensured by an ad hoc commission, with the assistance of an auctioneer. Representatives from the Independent Anti-Corruption Office (BIANCO) and the court of first instance also participate in the control mechanism. The list of lots, reserve prices, and participation terms can be consulted at Customs offices in Madagascar as well as on the official website of the customs administration. After Antanimena, other sales are planned, notably in Toamasina, Mamory-Ivato, Antsiranana, and Mahajanga. Director General Antoine Randrianjafy also warns the public against the proliferation of fake announcements on Facebook. The DGD publishes no auction announcements on this social network. Publications requesting registration fees payable by mobile money are therefore fraudulent. Interested parties are invited to refer only to official notices and the Customs institutional website.
