Anosy Road Partially Reopened to Traffic
Traffic congestion eased at Anosy. Heavy traffic jams have been reduced. Motorists from Ambohidahy no longer need to detour via lower Antsahamanitra to access the area. A road section where major pipeline replacement work has been underway since March was reopened to traffic. "The road on the Anosy side (Mohamed V road, near Lake Anosy) is now open and no longer closed during the day. However, it remains closed at night due to excavation and earth removal work," explained Oyo Razakamahefa, coordinator of the Integrated Sanitation Program for Antananarivo Phase 2 (PIAA2), during a site visit yesterday. The work is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD). To reach Ambohidahy from Anosy, motorists must still detour via the road passing in front of the Mahamasina garden city. New Phase. The other section of Mohamed V avenue remains closed to traffic. "The infrastructure installed under the roadway has not yet dried. This road should reopen around mid-July," the official continued. These interventions represent only part of the first phase of the sanitation network replacement work in Mahamasina. Starting June 29, the construction company will begin a new phase between the Mahamasina roundabout and the police station. This major project, divided into several phases, aims to renew all pipelines in the area, extending to Ankadilalana and Antanimbarinandriana. To date, the overall progress rate of the Mahamasina project is 18.12%, compared to 38% for this first phase. In Antanimena, just over 20% of work is complete. The reopening of this road section is scheduled for September. "The schedule should be met. By early August, a large part of the road should be completed and reopened to the public," emphasized Nicolas Le Guen, AFD director in Madagascar. This work should resolve flooding problems in Antananarivo.
