A field mission to Volobe strengthens coordination of works. The Volobe II hydroelectric project is advancing and entering a new stage in its implementation process. Following the signing of an amendment extending project commitments, a delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons conducted a site mission on July 18, 2026. The delegation was accompanied by experts from CPCS consulting firm. This field visit allowed various officials to better understand the project's technical characteristics and assess the realities and constraints of its implementation. Discussions focused on work organization, coordination between different stakeholders, and preparation of upcoming phases. This mission follows decisions made after the amendment was signed. It aims to strengthen technical oversight of the project and accelerate procedures necessary for its realization. It also reflects the government's commitment and that of its partner, Compagnie générale d'hydroélectricité de Volobe, to advance this strategic energy infrastructure. The Volobe II project plans a production capacity of up to 127 megawatts. The electricity produced should supply the interconnected networks of Toamasina and Antananarivo, thus strengthening energy supply in these two major economic centers. Ultimately, this infrastructure should help improve national electricity production capacity and reduce the energy deficit. Continuation of studies and preparatory works remains crucial to ensure effective project implementation under optimal technical and operational conditions.
