Candidates from Antananarivo and surrounding areas are distributed across 38 examination centers. The first day of the 2026 baccalaureate took place yesterday for 233,538 registered candidates nationwide, including 61,997 under the authority of Antananarivo University, of which 26,529 are in Antananarivo city and 35,468 in the surrounding areas. The youngest candidate of the 2026 session is 10 years old and the oldest is 67 years old. Philosophy exams in the morning and modern languages in the afternoon marked the beginning of the 2026 baccalaureate session. While the vast majority of examination centers conducted the first two exams without incident, several problems were noted. Two cases of identity substitution fraud were discovered in examination centers in Ambilobe and Bezaha. The candidates involved were replaced by other individuals. Additionally, several cases of flagrant possession of mobile phones were observed, despite prior instructions prohibiting phones within examination center premises and certainly not inside exam rooms. One particular case was highlighted by the Director General of Higher Education, Prof. Angelo Raherinirina. It involved a female candidate found with a mobile phone hidden in her intimate areas. In Mahabo, candidates were also caught cheating using prohibited documents. All these fraud and violation cases are subject to disciplinary sanctions and/or legal proceedings. The ban on mobile phones in examination centers for candidates, supervisors, and administrative staff was implemented to minimize fraud cases and prevent the proliferation of scams involving fake exam papers. Another incident that occurred the day before the baccalaureate exams involved a road accident affecting about ten candidates from Antsirabe who came to take the exam in Miandrivazo. Several of them were unable to sit for the exam due to the severity of their health condition, as confirmed by doctors. Today, candidates will face mathematics exams in the morning and Malagasy in the afternoon.
